Graham Fry is our Unsung Hero

There are many people who contribute to the running of our club and without them things would not go as smoothly as they do. Most of our volunteers are parents of children who swim with us but there are a few who continue to offer their time and commitment long after their children have moved on. Last year it was decided to attempt to recognise the contribution that people make by presenting the “Patience Peplinski Award for the Unsung Hero”.

Patience was the first girls Captain at the Club who sadly died last year aged just 43. After leaving the Wasps she went on to swim for Manchester University and although she later concentrated on her musical talents, she continued to make a huge contribution to her local community. By naming the award for the unsung hero after her, the club hope to pay tribute, not only her contribution to the early days of Whitchurch Wasps but also the contribution that many like her make within their communities.

So, the 2010 Patience Peplinski Award for the Unsung Hero of the Year was presented to Graham Fry. Graham has been involved with the club for many, many years as a parent and a master swimmer. He has also calculated and produced the pb sheets for years. This involves collating all the results from every gala or time trial to give an accurate record of everyone’s personal best. This is a thankless, never ending task that Graham completes with amazing accuracy and efficiency. Giving this award is the club’s way of saying a very big THANK YOU!
