Wasps Lift President’s Cup
Congratulations to a superb Wasps Team who won the President’s Cup at the final of the National Arena Swimming League. On presenting the Trophy to the Wasps Captains, Charlotte Archdeacon and Jamie Taylor, the referee commented that it had been awarded for the professional manner in which the whole team conducted themselves and for their sportsmanship.
This was a great end to what turned out to be a tough gala for Whitchurch. Qualifying in sixth place for the final, it was clearly going to be an uphill struggle to get points on the scoreboard but everyone rose to the challenge and put in some great performances. There were less first places than normal but they were in the following races:
Amelia Penn: 10/11 year old breast stroke and butterfly
Charlotte Archdeacon: open 100m backstroke
Both girls were unbeaten in these events throughout the League this year so well done to them.
In some very tough races the following swimmers did well to come in second and put 5 points each on the scoreboard:
Charlotte Evans in the 100m Freestyle;
Joe Evans in the 100m Freestyle;
Lydia Jamieson in the 100m Butterfly;
Charlotte Archdeacon in the 100m Breast Stroke;
Amelia Penn swimming p in the 50m Breast Stroke;
Jamie Taylor in the 100m Backstroke;
and the open freestyle relay team: Charlotte A, Charlotte E, Jamie and Joe.
In the end we came 5th overall which was a step up from our qualifying position.
The team at Woolston was:
Amelia Penn, Catherine Parsonage, Amy Farr, Beth Jamieson, Abi Fawcett, Lydia Jamieson, Charlotte Evans and Charlotte Archdeacon
Tom Kitching, Ben Dawson, Sam Kitching, Ed Reid, Hayden Ciesielski, Tom Bishop, Callum Trent, Jamie Taylor and Joe Evans
The next team gala is the Crusader League on 16th January. Please keep your eye on the pool notice board for team details.
