Wasps in Action

Members of the Club have been flying the flag for Whitchurch at a number of swimming events around the country over the last two weeks.

On the 23rd and 24th October, Abi Fawcett, Charlotte Evans and Eleanor Reid were competing at the Chase Roebuck Gala at Wolverhampton. They came away from a successful weekend with 5 personal bests and 5 medals.

Eleanor swam a great 15/over 100m Freestyle race in a new personal best time of 1:07.39 to finish in 14th place. Abi Fawcett came 3rd in the 14 years 100m breast stroke in a time of 1:26.28 and was then 4th in the 200m breast stroke in a personal best time of 3:03.77. In the 100m backstroke she finished second and her gold medal came in the 200m Individual Medley which she swam in another personal best time of 2:37.79.

Over the same weekend Charlotte Archdeacon was representing the North West Division at the National Schools’ Championships at Crystal Palace. She competed in the Senior Girls Medley Team and the individual 100m Backstroke where she made it through to the final by swimming a long course personal best and came in 7th place overall.

Last weekend saw the Midlands Short Course Championships with Charlotte Evans and Bryony and Charlotte Archdeacon competing against the best swimmers in the East and West Midlands at the brand new Corby International Pool. The standard of swimming at this event was extremely high but the Wasps swimmers all competed well and clocked up a very impressive 7 personal bests. Charlotte Archdeacon swam a personal best time of 2:20.64 in the 200m Backstroke which was over a second inside the National Qualifying Time.

Wasps coach, Steve Archdeacon was duly impressed with these results: “These swimmers have done really well to be getting such good times early on in the season. It is very encouraging to see that their hard work is paying off and I am really looking forward to what the rest of the season will bring.”
