Wasps swim at National Inter County Competition

Congratulations to Whitchurch swimmers, Charlotte Evans, Joe Evans and Bryony and Charlotte Archdeacon who all represented Shropshire at the prestigious inter- county gala at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on Sunday.
This is the one event in the swimming calendar where all 38 Counties from England, Scotland and Wales bring their top young swimmers to compete in two separate short course galas which take place at either end of the 50m Olympic pool – confusing to watch but the swimmers did not seem to mind and produced some fantastic results.
Charlotte Archdeacon came 4th in the 100m Backstroke in a time of 1:06.37 which was just outside her personal best and 27 one hundredths of a second outside the National time. She also swam in the 100m Breastroke where she finished 11th. All Whitchurch swimmers competed in the Medley Relays and Joe also swam in the final event which was the 6 x 50m Freestyle relay. In the end Shropshire came 13th in their Division.
Wasps Chair, Lindsey Reid was very proud of the Whitchurch swimmers: “These swimmers have done extremely well to represent their county and to perform so well on the day. It is great for our small club to have four swimmers selected for such an important event.”
The County Swimmers were joined in Sheffield by Olympic and Commonwealth stars Ross Davenport and David Parry who co-hosted the gala and video messages of support came from World Champion Kerri Anne Payne and Olympic silver medallist Cassie Patten.
Wasps swimmers are in action again this weekend with Ellie Reid and Abi Fawcett competing at the Chase Roebuck Gala at Wolverhampton and Charlotte Archdeacon representing North West Schools at Crystal Palace in the National Schools Divisional Championships.
