Golden Girls are Unbeatable at County Championships

The Whitchurch Wasps 16 and under girls relay teams rounded off the Shropshire County Championships at Market Drayton last Sunday with a double victory in the medley and freestyle events.

Bryony Archdeacon, 14 set the team off on the road to victory in the Freestyle race by swimming the first leg in a personal best time of 29:84 to put the team in second place. Both Rachel Trent, 14, and Charlotte Evans 16, swam their best ever times to maintain the team’s position handing over to Charlotte Archdeacon, also 16, just behind the leaders, Northgate. Charlotte then swam a personal best in the final leg to bring the team home to gold in a nail biting finish that was just outside the county record. In the end just 4 one hundredths of a second separated first and third.

In the Medley race, the team were in pole position from the start after a great Backstroke leg by Charlotte Archdeacon. Bryony then held onto the lead against stiff competition in the Breastroke and Lydia Jamieson, 14 handed over to Charlotte Evans in first place after the Fly leg. She then fought off the other teams who were hot on her tail to win a second gold which was also just outside the record.

Bryony, Lydia and Rachel were joined by team mates Ellie Reid and Abi Fawcett to also win two bronze medals in the 14 and under relays. The boys 10 and under team comprising Ben Dawson, Sam Trevor, Cameron Moore and Reece Hill also won bronze in their Freestyle event.

In other events over the weekend, the Whitchurch team won 4 Gold, 6 Silver and 8 Bronze Medals.

Wasps Chair, Lindsey Reid was delighted with the results: 'Our swimmers have done extremely well and have delivered our best ever County Championship results. We are very proud of them.'
