Wasps are Runners Up in the Crusader League Round 2

Well done to all the swimmers who took part in Round 2 of the Crusader League on Saturday and notched up a total of 217 points to claim second place behind a formidable Newcastle team on 235 points.

In all we had 17 first places and over half of all events were either 1st or 2nd.

Everyone swam extremely well but there are a few who deserve a special mention:

Our relay teams performed very well - the Open Ladies team – Charlotte Evans, Charlotte Archdeacon, Lydia Jamieson and Bryony Archdeacon were unbeaten in their two relay events .The 12/u Girls team – Annabel Cook, Beth Jamieson, Amelia Penn and Melina Athanassiu; the 14/u girls – Ellie Reid, Lydia Jamieson, Bryony Archdeacon and Annabel Cook; and the 12/u boys – Ed Reid, Hayden Ciesielski, James Cook and Charlie Lane all won their Medley relays.

In the individual events Charlotte Archdeacon secured maximum points for the team by winning the Open Ladies Individual Medley, the 100m Backstroke and the 100m Breastroke. Annabel Cook won both the backstroke and freestyle events in her age group and James Cook matched his sister’s two wins with two of his own in the backstroke and fly events. Bryony Archdeacon won both her individual events – the backstroke and the breastroke. Joe Evans made it a convincing win in the Open Freestyle and Lydia Jamieson swam up in the Open Fly and won. It was only Tait Furnival’s second appearance for the Wasps and even though she had already swum 4 lengths of Fly, she still came out on top in the backstroke with a fantastic win.

A few of our swimmers have made their debut in league swimming over the last two galas so well done to Bridie Buckingham, Philippa Lane, Tait Furnival, Rebecca Woolley, Lucinda Smith, Ben Dawson, Reid Morgan and Cameron Moore who all put in a fantastic effort.

A big thank you too to Gareth Biggs who swam for us at the last minute.
