County Records Stung by Wasps

Whitchurch Wasps once again demonstrated their winning ways at the Shropshire County Age Group Championships by smashing two county backstroke records in one weekend.

The first was taken by Alfie Pardoe on his way to winning gold in the 10 year old 200m backstroke race when he knocked a full 4 seconds off the existing county record in a personal best time of 2:54.69. The second came on Sunday morning, again in the 200m backstroke, when Charlotte Archdeacon not only won the 15 year old age group gold but also added the 200m backstroke overall County Title to her 100m backstroke title. On the way she broke the county record which had stood since 2002 by 7 seconds in a personal best time of 2:24.99.

As well as this, the Wasps won a total of 17 medals over the 2 days – 6 golds, 8 silvers and 3 bronzes.

Alfie also won the gold in the 400m Freestyle and silver in the 200m Freestyle making it an incredible 5 golds and one silver from 6 events so far in the counties. Charlotte won gold in the 100m breastroke and silvers in the 200IM, 400m Freestyle and 100m freestyle.

14 year old Joe Evans won the gold medal in the 100m Freestyle in a personal best time of 58.45. He also won the bronze in the 400m and 200m Freestyle.  Hannah Greene came from behind to snatch the 11 year old 100m Freestyle gold to add to her silver in the 400m Freestyle which she won by knocking an incredible 36 secs off her previous personal best.

Charlotte Evans continued her medal winning ways by adding silvers in the 200m fly and 200m back and bronze in the 100m Breastroke and 200IM. Bryony Archdeacon made it a breaststroke double by gaining silver in the 100m breastroke to add to her silver in the 200m.
