Chester Junior Gala

The Club announces that it has made some changes to Wasp 1 & 2 First of all congratulations to all of our young swimmers who excelled themselves at Chester last Sunday. Out of 32 individual events we won 25 and we were victorious in 12 out of 12 relays. We dominated proceedings from start to finish and left Chester’s A & B teams and Winsford for dust.

Unfortunately we were robbed of our just reward, of winning the overall trophy. If you were sitting there confused at the results here’s a brief explanation of what went on.

The gala was billed as a Silver event. The idea being that really top national or district swimmers shouldn’t be able to compete.  Any swimmer, finishing in a faster time than the Silver standard, is given a speeding ticket and no points. We had assumed that the times were based on a 25m pool when in fact they were based on their 25 yard pool (circa 22 metres). Our team choice was made on our 25/50m times.

We had 9 and 10 year old swimmers receiving speeding tickets when swimming up in the 12/u category even though they were easing off towards the end of the race. By the end of the gala all were amazed with the concept that they were, as a team, too good. A new level of confidence that they can take forward.

Anyway it is a sign of how far we have come with our junior swimmers over the last couple of years.  All we can say is “Watch out the Wasps are about!”

Once again thanks to all our swimmers & fan clubs. Rock on the Newport Gala in 2 weeks – the only speeding tickets being given out are for swimmers going too slow!!!
