Wasps sprint to victory...
At the final weekend of the county championships Whitchurch Wasps excelled again winning 18 medals in the sprints and relays.
Charlotte Archdeacon put in a another outstanding performance, winning 3 golds in the 14 year age group in the 50m Backstroke, 50m Breast stroke and 100 IM as well as silver in the 50m fly.
Rachel Hares was declared county champion in the 50m breast stroke breaking her own previous record twice in both the heats and the final and winning the gold in the open category. She also won silver in the 50m Fly and the 100IM.
Joe Evans stormed home to win the 50m freestyle in the 13 year old age group and narrowly missed out on a new county record on Saturday, only to come back on Sunday and take the record when he swam in the relay team. In addition to this he also won a silver medal in the 50m backstroke.
Charlotte Evans added another 2 silvers and 2 bronzes to her medal collection in the 50m free, 100 IM, 50m backstroke and 50m breast stroke.
Alfie Pardoe put in another medal winning performance in the 100IM and 50m backstroke where he gained silvers.
Ben Williams also rose to the occasion winning bronze in the 100IM.
Midland district qualifying times were also achieved by Charlotte Archdeacon. Charlotte Evans and Rachel Hares.
The championships were rounded off with the relays where we had 9 teams competing. The Ladies Open team consisting of Rachel Hares, Charlotte Taylor, Charlotte Archdeacon and Charlotte Evans came 3rd in both the Medley and Freestyle events.
Many of the younger swimmers had not had a chance to swim in the individual events and so the relays were their first experience of a county event. All the relay teams put in a great effort with many narrowly missing out on a medal position.
Great individual performances were also put in by: Beth Jameson, Lauren Bond, Ottilie Fairhurst, Hannah Greene, Annie Mellings, Abi Fawcett, Nic Latham, Bryony Archdeacon, Lucy Okell, Eleanor Reid, Jessica Headdon, Lydia Jameson, Charlotte Taylor, Edward Reid, Charlie Lane, Elliott Hughes, Hayden Ciesieleski, Sam Evans, Josh Edge, Thomas Bishop, Thomas Penn, James Portch, Jamie Taylor, Philip Austin, Jamie Crawford.
