Whitchurch Wasps - Junior Squad News - 9th September 2006 - Jon Pardoe

Time Trials

The next time trials are less than two weeks away – on Thursday 21st September 7pm – 9pm at Whitchurch Pool.

All swimmers should attend as these times are used to monitor progress as well as determining lane promotion and gala selection. Swimmers record times over 25m (1 length) in all 4 strokes.
In order to move up a lane the following times need to be achieved:

25m Back
25m Breast
25m Fly
25m Free
Lane 5:
26.00
30.00
30.00
23.00
(Any 2 of these 4 times)

Lane 4:
23.00
27.00
27.00
20.00
(Any 3 of these 4 times + Wasp 1 skills – see website for details)

Swimmers can start either with a dive or from the water – so hopefully no one should be overly concerned or daunted. Because there is some time spent at poolside in between each stroke event you should bring a t-shirt in order to keep warm.

Apologies to all those swimmers who did the necessary qualifying times etc at the last time trials but were not promoted to a higher lane (including Annie Mellings, Jessica Powell, Mirian Ridley, Alfie Pardoe, Hayden Ciesielski, Sam Holland & Hannah Greene) – this was due to an admin error (not mine!!!) and I promise that this will be rectified after these forthcoming time trials.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Wasp 1

For those of you aiming for lane 4 qualifying times you will also need to have completed Wasp 1 skills which you can find detailed on the website. I will be doing these assessments from 6pm-7pm at Christleton on Sunday 17th September.

Membership Fees & Charitable Status

The club has now become a registered Charity – which provides us with a number on funding initiatives. Can everyone please make sure that they have a current standing order in place for the appropriate club membership fees. For tadpoles these monthly fees are currently £13.50 and for lane 5 & 4 swimmers £21.50. The clubs bank details can be found on the Club website. Unfortunately due to our insurance requirements I will have no option but to turn swimmers away if the correct standing orders are not in place – so please double check.

Wrexham Junior Sprint Meet

This is being held on the 18th November at Wrexham pool 8.30am – 4pm. It is for swimmers aged on that day 8 to 12 and swimmers compete against other swimmers their own age.

Most of the races are 25m – so not a problem for any of you and I’d therefore like to get as many of you competing as possible. I need to know who is available by 12th October and entry costs £3.50 per event – there are a maximum of 4 events per swimmer.

I’m hoping to organise a trip to Pizza Hut after the gala – so even more reason to enter!!!!!!!!

Club Shop

Hopefully everyone has now got the right size fins etc. Can you please make sure that you bring your fins and a water bottle to every session.

If anyone has some surplus pocket money, or can’t think of what presents to ask to be given for Xmas or a forthcoming birthday – front wearing snorkels are excellent for Fly training. These can be ordered from the Club shop.

The club shop will be poolside at the forthcoming time trial.

Amazon.co.uk

Whilst on the subject of Xmas and birthday presents can I remind everyone that on the shopping part of the Club website (www.whitchurchwasps.co.uk) you will find a link to Amazon.co.uk. If you follow this link anything you then buy from Amazon will benefit the Club financially to the tune of 5% of your spend.

ASA Membership Cards

I’ve now got the ASA membership cards for this year which I will be handing out over the next week or so.
