Crusader League Round 4 - Biddulph

Saturday 24th  June saw our battle bus heading off for Biddulph to renew our gladiatorial contest with Dane Valley, Newport and Biddulph in round 4 – the final round - of this season’s Crusader League.

The bus was packed to capacity – eager with anticipation - and shaking to Tina Turner’s “Simply The Best”.

At the start of this gala we were lying in second place in the League but only just 6 points ahead of third place Newport. So it was more important than ever before that we got off to a good start.

First up therefore was a trump card – the return of Rachel Hares – the best swimmer the club has produced to date – and fresh from her 6th place in the breastroke of the British Championships. Not surprisingly she came first. I was at lane end and both my counterparts for Dane Valley and Newport looked aghast – I told them that they hadn’t seen anything yet and better be prepared to take a good beating.

By the end of the gala we had not only hung on to 2nd position but had increased the margin over Newport to 45 points.

I won’t single out any other individual swimmers for recognition because this was a team event and in that respect we delivered.

The final points tally was:

  Round 4 Total
Dane Valley
244
950
Whitchurch
182
746
Newport
143
701
Biddulph
97
522
