Shropshire County Championships - Day 5 & 6 Results

The 2006 Shropshire County Championships finally came to an end in spectacular fashion with the Wasps grabbing a shed load more medals on days 5 & 6.

Robert Flack set the tone for the weekend by taking the Gold medal in the men’s 16 year age group 50m freestyle with a West Midlands qualifying time of 26.77.

Thomas Draper then added to this Gold Medal tally by coming first in the men’s 11 year age group 50m backstroke in a Personal Best time of 38.18.

Silver Medals went to Philip Austin in the men’s 14 year age group 50m backstroke in a PB of 32.39; to Joe Evans in the 12 year age group men’s 50m freestyle in a PB of 30.34; to Robert Flack – again – in the men’s 16 year age group 50m backstroke in a PB of 33.6. Not to be out done the Wasp women added to this tally with Charlotte Archdeacon taking Silver in the 13 year age group women’s 50m breastroke; and Abi Fawcett – showing real potential - by grabbing the Silver in the 10 year age group 50m backstroke in a PB of 40.43.

Bronze medals were picked up by Philip Austin in the 50m freestyle; and by Robert Flack in the 50m butterfly & 50m breastroke.

In the relays our men’s team consisting of Thomas Bishop, Joshua Edge, Thomas Penn & Sam Evans took the Silver in the 9/10 age group 200m freestyle and Bronze in the 200m medley. Our women’s team consisting of Charlotte Archdeacon, Charlotte Evans, Charlotte Taylor and Hannah Gilbert took the Bronze in the 13/14 age group freestyle & Silver in the 200m Medley.

Overall the last two days saw our swimmers achieve a staggering 88 Personal Bests and 3 Midland Qualifying times.

Hopefully the spectacular results we achieved over the 6 days of the Championships will inspire all of our swimmers to focus on obtaining County qualifying times for next year and then go on to secure a medals galore. How amazing would it be if next year we could win at least 50% of the medals available. There is no doubt that we can no progress from these Championships to completely dominate County swimming in the future.
