2006 Shropshire County Championships - Day 2
The first event of the day saw brother and sister 1500m freestyle team win the long haul in the battle for medals. Jamie Taylor (pictured right) won gold in the men’s 12 yr age group in 20:37.82 whilst sister Charlotte raced to a silver medal in the women’s 14 yr age group in 20:00.10
Philip Austin finished the day with a silver and two bronze medals to add to his collection from the first day of the championships. Philip took silver in the men’s 100 m backstroke in his age group with a PB of 1:09.70. He further improved this time with a 1:09.60 5th place swim in the finals. Philip’s bronze medals were for 100 m freestyle (1:03.60 PB) and 200m Individual Medley (IM) in yet another PB breaking time.
Everyone of the 9 strong women’s 200 m breaststroke team swam their heats in greatly improved PB times. Both Bryony and Charlotte Archdeacon (pictured left) won bronze medals in their age groups.
Dominic Horbury won the Wasps’ other medal of the day – bronze in the 16 yr age group in the 100 m freestyle event bringing the medal the Wasps tally of medals for the first weekend of the championships 4 gold, 2 silver and 12 bronze placings.
Other swimmers also achieved PBs. Joe Evans took 4 ½ seconds off his time for 100 m freestyle finishing in 1:12.46 and around 17 seconds off his time in the 100 m backstroke. James Portch took 8 seconds off of his 200 IM time to beat his target of 3:30 with a time of 3:22.70
In total the 16 Wasp swimmers swam in 21 heats with 9 medals and a remarkable 18 new personal best times.
