Wasps Announce Plans to apply for Charitable Status

The club today unveiled plans to apply to the Charities Commission for charitable status. This alteration to the clubs constitution is seen by the committee as being the next stage in taking the club forwards. Charities are often able to raise funds from the public, grant-making trusts and local government more easily than non-charitable bodies, and gifts to charities are usually free from income tax and inheritance tax.

Commenting on the proposal Jon Pardoe, a committee member said “In recent months we’ve begun to lay the foundations necessary in order to see the ambitions of the club fulfilled. We’ve improved communications through the launch of the website, obtained a corporate sponsor for this years Closed Club Championships and secured more pool time with the promise of more to come. Obtaining Charitable status will potentially give us the opportunity to increase the level of funding into the club which is the very backbone of everything we are trying to achieve”.

Notice of a Special General Meeting to be held on the 2nd March has been sent to all members.
