Wasps Kick Off Season at Congleton
January 21st 2006
The Wasps kicked off their season in the Crusader 3rd Division on Saturday 21st Jan at Congleton by securing 39 Personal Bests. For many of our youngest swimmers this was their first ever gala and was a foundation upon which to build. Early nerves were definitely on display from both swimmers and our away supporters – but we soon settled down to secure a number of excellent and memorable victories.
Our 14/u Girls 4x2 Medley relay team consisting of Charlotte Archdeacon, Hannah Gilbert, Charlotte Evans and Lucy Lawledge-Evans won their event in 2:31.48 and then went to take first in the 4x2 Freestyle relay. Charlotte Archdeacon individually secured two firsts in the 14/u Girls Free in a time of 32.14, and the 14/u Girls 50m Backstroke in a time of 35.80.
Abi Fawcett took first place in the 12/u Backstroke in a personal best time of 41.61, whilst Charlotte Taylor secured a PB of 1:26.25 to take first place in the Open Ladies 100m Breastroke. Charlotte Evans secured a PB of 35.48 to take first place in the 14/u 50m Fly, whilst Hannah Gilbert secured First in the 14/u 50m Breastroke.
For the Boys James Portch came first in the 12/u Boys 50m Fly with a Personal Best time of 40.39. He then took the anchoring leg in the 12/u Boys 4x2 Freestyle Relay where accompanied by Thomas Draper, Joshua Edge and Ben Williams we secured another first place in 2:34.88. Thomas Draper then went on to take first place in the 12/u Boys 50m Backstroke, whilst our Open Men’s team consisting of Philip Austin, Mathew Everett, James Park and Michael L-Evans secured a double first in the Open 4x2 Medley Relay in a time of 2:08.60 and the 4x2 Freestyle relay. James Park ended up securing First place in the last of the individual events the Open Men’s 100m Fly in a time of 1:07.53.
Overall there was evidence of some excellent team spirit and significant reason to be optimistic about the future.
