Coaches Report - 20th February 2006

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Over the last few weeks I have included in the swimming programmes a warm up for the counties so that swimmers know what they are doing on the day.  This will have to be modified on the day so that swimmers do 50s in the stroke they are swimming that day and not 50s IM order as indicated.  The following is the warm up we have been doing.  I will email this to Steve Archdeacon so that he can distribute it to Whitchurch Wasps.  Helpers at the counties should keep a copy.  I feel it is important we should be organised on the day as this helps to alleviate nerves with the swimmers.

WARM UP      Lanes 1-3

200 Frontcrawl shark fin (make sure drill done correctly)
200 Frontcrawl
200 No 1
4 x 50 IM order working on turns (Change to stroke swum on day)
4 x 25 Sprints of stroke being swum

WARM UP      Lanes 4 & 5

200 Frontcrawl shark fin (make sure drill done correctly)
200 No 1
4 x 50 IM order working on turns (Change to stroke swum on day)
4 x 25 Sprints of stroke being swum

I will give a report of the County Championships when they have finished but already we have several medals including 4 Gold.

INTER-COUNTY GALA WOLVERHAMPTON 4 FEBRUARY 2006

Three of our swimmers took part Phillip Austin, Charlotte Archdeacon, and Jamie Taylor.  They all swam really well and all gained PBs.  There was a mix up when Charlotte swam and she swam under the name of another swimmer in the 100 Breaststroke.  She did a terrific time of 1.24.72 which makes her the highest ranking in her age group in the county and the girl she swam in place of gets her BAGCAT points!  Ceri Shepherd is looking into what can be done but it has to go through Stafford as they hosted the gala and she will get back to me as soon as possible.

TIME TRIALS

Time Trials were arranged  for Thursday 16 February as this will fit in well with our taper week for County Championships and is also urgently required for swimmers trying to get into Lane 5.

We are introducing 50M swims for Lanes 1-3 from now on.  I will look at the times achieved as soon as possible and then set Lane times.

NEWPORT RELAY GALA

I was away when the Gala took place but I understand our swimmers really enjoyed it even though we came last. I am sure there will be lots of PBs as many of the children had never swum in a gala before.  Results have not been published yet but they will be passed on to Graham Fry as soon as possible.  We should try to arrange a Gala ourselves at Whitchurch and invite the same local teams. Perhaps we could make it a Diddy Gala rather than a Relay and restrict it to 4 teams because of lack of space at Whitchurch.
